History:

Bankaw was a noble and wise datu of Limasawa, remembered as one of the earliest Filipino heroes. He welcomed the Spaniards peacefully and embraced Christianity, hoping for unity and progress. But as time passed, he saw the harshness of colonial rule and the loss of his people's ancient ways. Refusing to watch his culture fade, Bankaw rose with unshakable courage to defend his land and beliefs.

In 1621, he boldly renounced foreign faith and built a grand temple to honor the gods of his ancestors. With fiery determination, he rallied warriors and neighboring leaders to stand against the oppressors. His revolt thundered with the spirit of freedom, shaking the grip of colonial power. Though outnumbered, Bankaw and his followers fought with unmatched bravery.

In the end, he was captured and executed—but not defeated in spirit. Bankaw's legacy lives on as a fearless defender of Filipino identity and a true symbol of heroism.
