History:

Gabriela Silang (1731–1763) was a Filipina revolutionary and the first woman to lead an armed resistance against Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines. After the assassination of her husband, Diego Silang, in 1763, Gabriela boldly assumed command of the Ilocos Revolt, determined to continue the struggle he had begun.

As commander, Gabriela organized revolutionary forces, forged alliances, and personally led troops in battle, an extraordinary act of leadership in the 18th century. Though her rebellion was eventually crushed and she was executed, her courage and resolve secured her place in history as a symbol of resistance, sacrifice, and women’s leadership in the Filipino fight for freedom.
